In the 1970's there came the ultimate disco dancing girl, her name was
Darci!

Released by Kenner in 1977 and continuing until 1981, Darci was a fashion model who came with  a booklet, stand and monogrammed, white vinyl  portfolio which contained three magazine covers featuring Darci. Her hair came in blonde, redhead or brunette and she had a range of fashions and even a perfume. She had two friends, an African American called Dana and the green eyed, auburn haired Erica. Cover Girl Darci’s fashion was a swimsuit with a long matching skirt, bracelets, high-heeled sandals, and a flower necklace which came in either white, pink or blue.
The truly fascinating thing to me about this doll is the very obvious relationship she has with Jem.
The body is almost identical and the face moulds for Darci, Dana and Erica were used in Jem dolls and characters.

Firstly the Darci doll range then the Jem comparisons, please wait as there are a LOT of pictures.

The main difference is in the pelvic region, Darci's is narrower and more posable.  Dolls from the Jem line have smaller feet so they cannot share shoes but Darci can wear the same shoes as other Kenner dolls like Dusty and Princess Leia.  The same face mould was used for Aja of the Jem line and Darci.

The same face mould was used for Erica and Danse, Jetta and Clash.

Dana

Various versions of Shana.

Stormer Video Synergy

Yet again the same face mould was used for all of Dana, Shana, Stormer, Video and Synergy.  It must be assumed that Kenner and Hasbro (the manufacturers of Jem) were connected.
